McMullan Architects are a chartered architectural practice based in the East Midlands. We offer a broad range of services, guiding you through every stage of your project with a design-led, client-focused approach. We pride ourselves on clear communication and thoughtful design, aiming to make the process as smooth and enjoyable as possible.
Brendan graduated from the Liverpool School of Art & Design in 2005, Brendan began his career at Brock Carmichael Architects, working on conservation projects for the National Trust and Liverpool One for Grosvenor Estates.
His journey after achieving his masters took him to London, where he worked with Morgan Sindall PLC on major engineering projects, including work for BAA at Heathrow Airport, TFL forLondon Underground, and various complex educational and healthcare facilities. Brendan then joined the award-winning Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands, designing and constructing luxury residences in Belgravia and Chelsea.
In 2011, Brendan relocated to the EastMidlands, where he played a key role in the design and delivery of John Lewis stores nationwide, extending Harvey Nichols restaurants, and developing student housing schemes across the UK. In 2014, he partnered with Laura to co-foundHayward McMullan Architects, bringing his expertise and passion for creating beautiful, functional spaces to their joint practice.
While at Hayward McMullan Brendan initally designed and delivered specialist food manufacturing facilities for 2Sisters Food Group, Birds Eye and Bakkavor PLC. Recently with Laura he has designed and constructed exceptional one off Paragraph 79 houses for private clients. Hayward McMullan are one of a handful of practices to achieve planning for a one off modern house in an area of outstanding natural beauty.
Currently Brendan is architect to Quenby Hall a grade 1 listed hall and estate widely regarded as the finest Jacobean house in England where sensitive building additions, refurbishments and garden projects are being knitted into the estates fabric. When he isn't caring for the practice he teaches Masters students at Nottingham University and has taught extensively at Nottingham Trent University for 10 years. Outside of work Brendan spends time running around after his two kids and labrador Cleo, perfecting his lasagne recipe and not catching fish on Rutland water.
Brendan’s commitment to transparent, client-focused architecture has been central to establishing a practice that is dedicated to designing thoughtful and beautifully crafted living spaces. He is a chartered architect with the Royal Institute of British Architects and is listed on the Architects Registration Board UK.
